Zeitfracht Medien GmbH is investing in cutting-edge logistics technology with SSI Schäfer

Erfurt, April 1, 2025. ZeitfrachtMedien GmbHwill develop and build a new, efficient automated picking and storage system for its logistics center in Erfurt in close collaboration with SSI Schäfer, a leading global provider of solutions for all areas of intralogistics. A new high-performance goods-to-person system will replace the existing manual shelf storage system and significantly increase picking throughput. This will reduce the workload on employees by eliminating previous walking distances and substantially increasing throughput.

In addition, the freight center will be equipped with robot-based automation that handles palletizing completely autonomously. Tasks that are less ergonomic or more demanding for employees will be taken over by robotic cells. The fully packed pallets will be automatically transported onward. This will significantly increase both the throughput of the entire logistics center and delivery speeds. An eight-figure sum is being invested in this ambitious project, which is part of Zeitfracht Medien’s comprehensive strategy to further automate and strengthen its Thuringia location.

The SSI Schäfer Group, a leading global provider of solutions for all areas of intralogistics headquartered in Neunkirchen (Siegerland), has already successfully built the existing intralogistics facility in Erfurt. The intralogistics expert offers cost-effective intralogistics solutions from a single source, ranging from fully automated warehouses with customized service and maintenance packages to manual and semi-automated systems for small and medium-sized businesses as well as large corporations. In addition, SSI Schäfer has become one of the largest providers of software for internal material flow. Based on the positive experiences and constructive collaboration of recent years, Zeitfracht Medien will continue its partnership with SSI Schäfer in the future.

Thomas Raff, spokesperson for the management of Zeitfracht Medien GmbH, emphasizes: “We have had an excellent experience with SSI Schäfer’s systems in recent years, which is why we are relying on the company again as we continue to modernize our logistics center. The new system is an extension of an already highly efficient system with outstanding performance.”

Peter Lambrecht, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at the SSI Schäfer Group: “We are delighted that Zeitfracht Medien GmbH continues to rely on our cutting-edge technology. We look back on a long and successful partnership, which we will now continue with the latest technology. We look forward to applying our extensive expertise at the logistics center and closely supporting the entire project.”

With this investment, Zeitfracht Medien is further strengthening its existing logistics facilities and underscoring its commitment to innovation and efficiency. The new facility not only expands the freight center’s capacity but also helps improve the environmental friendliness and sustainability of its logistics processes.

Zeitfracht Medien is currently putting together a project team led by Sven Göhring to oversee the implementation of the project. Close collaboration between the partners is intended to ensure that the new facility meets high expectations and effectively addresses the need for modern logistics solutions.
