Let's rethink book services

Our Print-on-Demand Service

In addition to the immediate availability and topicality of titles, the biggest challenge is maintaining cultural diversity in the book market. Our print-on-demand service gives publishers and bookshops the flexibility they need. For titles whose stock production and storage is no longer economically viable, we produce on demand and just in time: namely when an order is received.

The POD Process at Kolibri360

4 steps to more diversity on the book market

1

Start & Preparation

The process begins with an initial contact, followed by the clarification and finalization of the contractual terms. A suitable interface for data transfer is then set up, through which the print data is transmitted and carefully checked.

2

Listing & Ordering

Once the review is complete, the title is made available in the distribution system and can be purchased through bookstores and online retailers. Customers can then order the title—either individually or in bulk.

3

Production & Delivery

The books are produced daily, handed over directly to the logistics department, and then packaged together and shipped to customers.

4

Billing

Printing costs are offset against sales proceeds. A transparent monthly statement, including a credit note, is provided.

Seamless coverage of demand

As one of the largest German-language special-interest book publishing groups, Paul Pietsch Verlage currently has a backlist of over 3,250 active titles. Thanks to Kolibri360’s print-on-demand services, we have been able to significantly extend the lifecycle of our title offerings since 2015, thereby ensuring the long-term availability of our backlist and nearly complete coverage of demand—especially for backlist titles with lower demand volumes. Through the parallel, active digitization of out-of-print archive titles, we are also continuously expanding our portfolio and have now transferred a total of 1,100 titles to the POD process—all while maintaining a manageable publishing risk.
